Yes, it's that time of year
again. The salmon are in the rivers and the
steelhead are right behind them.
Due to the elusive habits of
Steelhead and Salmon, plus the unpredictable
weather, I have put together a practical approach
to booking a drift boat fishing trip on Northern
California's most productive rivers, and keeping
ahead of the crowds at the same time. This
means when the Eel River is too high, or too low,
we can fish the Trinity River or Smith River.
Being able to fish where the action is best will
greatly improve our catches and it provides a new
experience on seldom floated stretches of
water.
The Weaverville area west of Redding, CA is one of the most productive areas for steelhead on the Trinity River. I recommend fly-fishermen bring 6-7 weight rods with floating lines. Light tackle rods and reels are provided for those not flyfishing.
A 17ft Fishrite McKenzie drift
boat takes us down a 6-8 mile stretch of river
smoothly and safely while allowing you to fish
remote pools and runs often unavailable to the
shore bound angler. All you need to bring is
warm clothing, rain gear, lunch, a California
Fishing License & Steelhead Report Card. For
winter fishing a heater and bimini top are
available for your use. In cold weather, short
rubber boots are ideal- waders are optional unless
you are fly fishing the Trinity River in Fall or
Winter.
When booking a trip, specific
dates are reserved by a 50% deposit, refundable
within 15 days notice. Rain checks and refunds can
be had if rivers are unfishable. Guided trips are
$290.00 for 2 people per day. I will supply all
rods, reels and necessary tackle.
